Imola Nagy Artist & Painter
I was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1976. I graduated on the trade of Fashion of Hungarian University of Arts and Design, with a Special Award of Republic in 2001. I have been working in the fashion industry for many years. Even though, I love my job, the real self-expression was missing from my life.
I started painting in 2010. It’s like a self-portrait or a curiculum vitae for me, what is quite hard to tell or to write down, but easier to paint. Basically, I started to draw illustrations, mainly hungarian folklore patterns, which were not conscious, but coming from me just like that. Later I started to make them in a larger scale.
I paint with watercolor and acrylic techniques. My watercolor paintings are made unique by the contouring that prevents painting, and my acrylic paintings get unique dynamics through large, powerful brushstrokes. I put my dreams and desires on paper, this time, surrealistic, dream-like images are created.
Painting role models for me are painters who were able to create another dimension that we cannot see with our imagination alone. I was very impressed by Klimt, but also by many movies and books that turn simple reality into something new and wild like Upside Down.
